Overview
I had the idea for an AI powered recipe generating app many years ago. At the time, I took a break from Android app development because of school, and my Play Store account was terminated. Since then, I have learned not to let setbacks like that stop me from building.
Recettes works by sending an image taken by the user in the app to Google's servers, which then return a JSON response. Recettes uses the Gemini 2.5 Flash model because it offers very generous limits on the free tier. For a broke college student, it was an absolute steal.
Recettes is built with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, using Room and KSP for local data storage, CameraX for image capture, Coil for image loading, Material 3 for the UI, and Google's AI APIs powered by Gemini 2.5 Flash for recipe generation.
Recettes will remain open source and free, at least for now. I do have plans to monetize it in the future.
